Blackshear - Mr. Roland David Stafford, 88 of Blackshear, passed away Saturday evening, September 8, 2018 at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Ludowici, GA on October 17, 1929, he had lived in Long County for many years before moving to Blackshear in 1970. Mr. Stafford enlisted in the US Navy when he was 17 years old and served for five years during the Korean conflict. He would go on to work for CSX Transportation as a signal supervisor retiring after 34 years. … Mr. Stafford was a member of Twin Rivers Baptist Church where he was in the Senior Adult Sunday school class and was a former member of First Baptist Church – Blackshear. An avid outdoorsman, he especially enjoyed hunting.
He was a son of the late George Dunham & Rosa Clementine Maulden Stafford. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Ernestine Raulerson Stafford; two sisters and three brothers-in-law, Mary (Clyde) Howard, Edna (Val) Henneman, and Buck Horne; and three brothers & two sisters-in-law, W. J. (Mary) Stafford, Thomas Henry (Theresa) Stafford, and Gordon Stafford.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Gay & Keith Ford of Macon; two sons, Michael Roland “Mike” Stafford and William “Billy” Stafford both of Blackshear; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Clarice Horne of Ludowici and Jane & J. B. Wright of Jacksonville, FL; a sister-in-law, Marlene Stafford of San Antonio, TX; 3 grandchildren, Valerie Elaine Thrift, Aaron Thrift, and Nico Ford; and several nieces, nephews, & other relatives.
Funeral services for Mr. Stafford will be held Wednesday morning, September 12, 2018, at 11:00 o’clock from the Pearson-Dial Chapel.
Interment will be in the Twin Rivers Cemetery in Hortense.
Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.
The family requests that members of the Senior Adult Sunday school class of Twin Rivers Baptist Church to serve as honorary pallbearers.
