Harry McClelland Obituary

Jesup – After fighting a courageous battle with cancer, Harry M. “H.M.” McClelland passed away peacefully at the home of his son on July 29, surrounded by his loved ones.

Harry was born on September 8, 1954 to Geraldine Chambless McClelland and Frank A. McClelland, Sr. of Ludowici.  He spent most of his life in Long County until recently making his home in Jesup.  Harry was a graduate of Ludowici High School, class of 1972.  After 43 years of faithful service he retired from Rayonier as a Technical Coordinator.

Upon retirement his plans of traveling were cut short by his illness.  Harry had a love for all animals.  There was a special place in his heart for birds but his passion from an early age was horses.  He participated in The Saddlebred Association for many years.

His greatest treasures were his grandchildren.  Known as “Papa Harry” he enjoyed spending time with them more than anything else.  They could always warm his heart and put a smile on his face.

Harry was known to all for his gift of gab and a special kind of humor.  He said what he meant and would always have the last word!

Preceded in death by his parents, Harry is survived by his daughter, Chanda McClelland and girlfriend Katelyn Herbaugh, a son and daughter-in-law Eric and Heather McClelland, three grandchildren, Jaden, Garrett, and Callie McClelland and Addison all of Jesup.  A sister, Kathy M. Goode (Jackie), brothers Frank A McClelland, Jr. (Cindy), Mike McClelland, Sr. (Rhonda) all of Ludowici.  Several nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers will be Billy Cowart, Gene Roberson, Don Crosby, Gary Dennison, Rick Warren and Kent Hall.

Honorary pallbearers will be co-workers from Rayonier Lab and staff of Hospice of South Georgia.

Visitation will be Monday, July 30 from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 31 at 11 AM at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Robert Long officiating.

Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations to Hospice of South Georgia for the excellent care given to their loved ones.
