Carl Moore Obituary

Townsend – Carl Stephen “Crab” Moore, 66, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2018 at SGHS Brunswick Campus.  He was born in Savannah, raised in Richmond Hill, and lived in McIntosh County the past 32 years.  He was a commercial fisherman all of his life and was legendary for catching the first known rare Goblin Shark off the U.S. coast in 2014.  Off the water, he was an avid hunter and enjoyed time spent with family and friends and attending Townsend Church of God.

Survivors are his wife, Cheryl Ryals Moore of Townsend; daughters and son-in-law, Stephanie Guest of Hortense and Jessica Lynn and Michael of Townsend; sons and daughter-in-law, Carl S. Moore, II and Candi of Brunswick and Daniel Moore of Townsend; sister and brother-in-law, Suzanne Stafford and Charles of Richmond Hill; brothers and sisters-in-law, A.W. “Woody” Moore and Janie and Bert Moore and Sabrina, all of Richmond Hill, and Don Moore of Midway; ten grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 14 at 2 PM at Townsend Church of God with Rev. Jamie Rivera and Rev. Danny Stilwell officiating.  Burial will follow in the Davis Cemetery in Long County. 

Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.

Active pallbearers will be Jeffrey Moore, Shawn Hewitt, Bill Harris, Keith Oglesby, Billy Joe Rowe, and Jabbo Griffin.

Honorary pallbearers will be commercial shrimper community members in attendance.
